Produce

I’m not crazy about all their produce, but it’s very convenient. Here are some items that I like.
PhotoWeight Watchers Power FoodNameDescriptionNotes
Not shown in exported viewYLycheesYay! Lychees are in season! Having grown up on them in South Africa, they’re one of my faves. But they have an interesting flavor and texture that you might find different. (Hubby’s not a fan.) You get the same kind of experience as peeling and snacking on nuts, but without the high calorie count. I say give them a try!

Trader Joe’s Chicken & Roasted Beet Salad with Balsamic VinaigretteFabulous salad. The lovely feta add richness, so just a little of the dressing and a sprinkle of salt takes it to extreme deliciousness!8 WW PP for the whole container with all the dressing

(5 points without dressing)
Carrot & Cilantro Bulgar Grain Salad NEWLOVE the turmeric garbanzo beans on top, and I don’t usually like garbanzos. Very fresh, light and “carrot-y”!6 WW PP for the whole container (8oz)
Trader Joe’s Citrus Chicken SaladDo you like Thai Green Papaya Salad? This is just like that, and only 2.5 grams of fat for the whole packet of dressing - which I never need. All WW power foods, except for the dressing. My favorite TJ’s salad! 7 WW PP for the whole package.
FAV FOOD FIND >>
Not shown in exported viewYShrimp & Surimi Salad with Louie DressingFAVORITE Simple Start to-go lunch! Lots of lettuce so very filling. The only thing that isn't a WW Power Food is the dressing—which surprisingly only adds 2g fat and ONE Point!6 Weight Watchers PointsPlus for the whole container, with dressing.
WW Simple Start
Not shown in exported viewCrisp Pasadena Salad with ChickenThe package claims that the dressing is to die for—and it is! I love that there's no onion (a lot of their salads are too onion-y for me.) Super-yummy and big enough to share. Mr. Picky's fav!6 WW PP for 1/2 the salad, with dressing.
4 WW PP for 1/2 the salad without dressing.
Not shown in exported viewBroccoli Slaw & Kale Salad with White Chicken MeatLove the generous amounts of crunchy broccoli slaw and kale. The dressing is tasty, but in my opinion definitely not worth an extra 240 calories and 23g fat! I dressed it with my favorite balsamic vinegar and olive oil for a healthy, light dinner. Definite redo.13 Weight Watchers PointsPlus with all the dressing.
6 WWPP without dressing.
Not shown in exported viewTrader Joe's Greens & Seeds SaladLove this! The components are so interesting and flavorful that I only needed a drop of the delicious Balsamic Dressing (which adds 220 calories and 21 grams of fat!).NEW!
11 Weight Watchers PointsPlus for the whole salad with dressing.
5 WW PP without dressing.
Not shown in exported viewHoney Glazed Miso Salmon on Salad GreensNever-ending greens! I could do with more salmon and less almonds, but very fresh and tasty. Love the honey ginger dressing; not too sweet.8 Weight Watchers Points Plus with dressing (5 PP without dressing)
Not shown in exported viewTrader Giotto's Chicken PiccataBreaded chicken breasts in a lemon, caper, white wine sauce. I love that there's no side included—just more chicken! The sauce comes in a separate packet, so you can control the amount. Best if you bake the chicken to crisp up the breading, or you can microwave when you're in a hurry! Serve with grilled or steamed asparagus and TJ's Butter Lettuce & Radicchio topped with Shaved Cheese Blend and drizzled with TJ's Balsamic Glaze and Olive Oil. (I add a little balsamic vinegar to cut the sweetness.)NEW!
10 Weight Watchers PointsPlus for one large chicken breast with half the packet of sauce. (Use less sauce to reduce the points.)
Trader Joe's Lentil Soup with Ancient GrainsLove the hint of cumin and my favorite grain - quinoa. Tastes homemade. A little on the oily side (hence the 10g fat) but really tasty. Higher in points than the other two soups, so not my first choice, but very filling and satisfying - great for sharing.5 WW PointsPlus for one cup (2.5 servings per container)
Trader Joe’s Chicken, Barley & Vegetable SoupHuge yum! And love that there aren’t any noodles.6 WW PP for the whole container (ETools says 5, but with the calculator it was 6 - go figure!) Not sure why it’s not considered a Power Food. (I don't think that a tiny bit of chicken fat and a grain of sugar should make it count as Points on Simple Start or Simply Filling)
Trader Joe’s Hearty Minestrone SoupHearty. Flavorful. Fresh. YUM!6 WW PP for the whole container (because let’s be real - who eats half a container of soup??) (ETools said 7 PP. Hmm.) Not sure why it’s not considered a Power Food. (I don't think a grain of sugar should make it count. Just count it towards your olive oil intake for the day.)
Not available in exported viewTrader Joe’s Chicken Salad, Reduced FatChicken breast meat, vegetables, crispy noodles, on lettuce with sesame dressing.8 WW PP for the whole package.

I could do with a little more chicken and greens (protein and veggies), and a little less couscous (carbs), though I’m a huge fan of pearl couscous, and this one does not disappoint. Will definitely buy this again.
8 WW PP (300 calories) for the whole container, with dressing.

I was expecting more of a granola type bar than what reminded me of my Ginger Hermits—which I've always thought of as a 'cookie.” I guess the 53mg EPA & DHA Omega Fatty Acids make it an acceptable breakfast food! I love the texture of the seeds within the soft chewiness of the baked bar. Freeze once opened to keep fresh.

    • Thanks Becca! Can’t wait to try the cod with brown rice and ratatouille! I wasn’t crazy about the artichoke hearts – they tasted odd to me. Maybe I’ll try it again. I bought the wholewheat pizza dough and kept trying to convince Aja to make pizzas with me, but she wasn’t interested! I’ll try it again sometime.

  2. If you can get your hand on dates (I think TJ’s sells them seasonally), they are super sweet and yummy with 0 WW points for two. They’re basically little candies, but the fiber keeps them points-free!

    • Thanks for sharing Kali! Love that idea! Will look out for them on my next TJ’s trip.

  4. If you haven’t tried the TJ’s chioppino, you will be impressed. It’s a small package, so I buy their frozen shrimp, scallop and mussel mix, a can of TJ’s lowfat marinara (which you also didn’t list), add about 1/2 of the package of frozen fish, the entire can of marinara, some spices (garlic, cayenne pepper, thyme, parsley, and fresh basil) and it’s enough for 4 meals. Very filling and delicious. Thanks for the shopping list. There are about 6 items I’m going to try.

    • Peggy—I’m salivating as I read this! I can’t wait to try it. I’m sure I’ll be adding it to my list! Unfortunately, my hubby (aka Mr. Picky) and my toddler (aka Miss Picky) don’t eat any kind of fish or shellfish, which happen to be my absolute fave—and we all know how good they are for you! I’m going to ignore their protests of stinky fish smells and make it anyway! Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  5. Power Food: whole grain tortillas with rolled oats and flax. So good. They made a wonderful bake tortilla bowl for my salad.

    • It was my understanding that tortillas (even whole grain) are NOT power foods – I will check on that and get back to you! They still sound yummy and probably low points – I’ll definitely try them!

  7. I love your website and ideas! On the Citrus Chicken Salad, my ww leader and I both calculated the salad WITH dressing to be on 3 points plus, not 7. Do you know why we might be coming up with different numbers? (It does seem hard to believe it would only be 3pp.) I add a huge and full of shredded cabbage to the salad and there is enough dressing. It’s a great salad! Thanks!

    • KJ – thank you so much for pointing that out! I will double check the points ASAP and let you know what I find. I hope you’re right!!

    • KJ – eTools it’s listed as 6 points for the whole container plus the dressing. Let your leader know that at the bottom of the label it says “dressing adds 7.5 g total fat” – I actually had it on my to-do-list to discuss it with a manager at TJ’s – because it doesn’t make sense! And I think it’s misleading to say 2.5 g total fat up top and then in the small print – oh BTW it’s actually 7.5 g! But it’s one of those things I still haven’t gotten to! Along with ALL the other new products I’ve been meaning to add to my lists, but just not enough hours in the day!!! Anyway, hope that helps. LMK what your leader says. Keep in mind that all of the ingredients, except for the dressing, are power foods, so if you’re doing Simply Filling I would just count a few points for the dressing. Great idea adding extra shredded cabbage – I’ll have to do that next time!
