Produce

I certainly don’t go to Target for their produce, but it’s convenient to pick up some items while I'm there. Here are a few that I like...

Spread halved potatoes in a single layer on a baking sheet; drizzle with extra virgin olive oil, sprinkle with kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper, and fresh or dried dill; bake at 400 degrees F for 20 - 30 minutes, stirring halfway.

Alexia Seasoned Waffle Cut Fries$3.44
The yummy taste of Arby's Curly Fries—without the guilt!
4 WW PP for 1 cup (84g)

Arby’s Curly FriesI can’t believe they have these at Target! I used to obsess about these—but after discovering Alexia Seasoned Waffle Fries (see above) they just didn’t seem “worthy” anymore. Even though they will only cost you one more point, there’s 2.5g saturated fat and 390mg sodium (compare to 0.5mg saturated fat and 330mg sodium in Alexia Waffle Fries). I’m guessing these frozen ones are better for you than the Fast Food Pickup version! Thoughts, anyone?5 WW PP for 1 1/3 cups (84g)
Annie’s Butternut Squash Macaroni & CheeseGreat job Annie’s for getting 1/2 serving veg per cup! And I LOVE Cavatappi Pasta—yummm! If you don’t have time to cook, this is certainly better for the little ones than Kraft Mac & Cheese. (My hubby’s favorite food on earth and the only thing he can make!)9 WW PP for 1 cup

YHominyIf you haven't tried hominy, you are missing out! Its like giant puffed up pieces of corn, with that starchy, pasta-like chew. (I’m obsessed.) You can find it at most grocery stores (at least here in California) with the canned corn, or in the Mexican Foods section (if there is one).

My favorite new WW Power Food Meal is this quick and easy Mexican Chicken Soup with Hominy >>

YSliced Bamboo Shoots and Water ChestnutsI always have these in my pantry. Slice them into strips and stir fry with eggs beaten with soy sauce when you’re dying for Chinese Take-Out! PB-2 Powdered Peanut ButterOnly $4.69
Powdered Peanut Butter, you say? Yes! Peanuts are slow-roasted and dehydrated to retain the maximum flavor, but cut the fat. Mix in oatmeal, greek yogurt, smoothies. Dip apple slices. Spread on a Corn Thin (Whole Foods). Or just savor it on a spoon when you're craving peanut butter!!

Try No Bake PB2 Cookies with Fiber One from Bell Plantation >>

Pasta, Rice, and Grains

PhotoWeight Watchers Power FoodNameDescriptionNotes
Near East Pearled Couscous, Original Plain$1.99
I much prefer Israeli couscous (a/k/a pearl couscous, or maftoul) to smaller, traditional couscous. It has the same texture and satisfying toothsome bite as pasta—since it is made from pasta "pearls." I love Near East Basil & Herb Pearled Couscous, which I haven’t seen yet at Target, but the plain one is a great starting point too.

Try Pan-Seared Turkey Cutlets with Pearl Couscous and Black-Eyed Peas >>
5 WW PP for 2 oz (1/3 cup dry)
Barilla Plus Spaghetti$1.99
Higher in protein and fiber. Make the whole box and freeze single portions, for pasta cravings.
My go-to Simple Start Comfort Food is Sauteed Mushrooms (mix a couple of the fancy ones in with buttons or cremini) in olive oil. (With lots of chopped garlic, of course!) Top with fresh Parmesan (not the stuff in the green can please!) and you’ll feel like you’re in a fancy Italian restaurant.

  2. We live near Issaquah, WA and would like to know where we can purchase the COSOMI COOKIE-CRACKER.
We have checked with Costco, Safeway, Trader Joe’s and QFC and they don’t seem to know what we are talking about.

    We really like the cookie-crackers.
